Why cannot folder or file names "con"?
An Indian discovered that nobody can create a folder or file anywhere named as "con" This is something pretty odd and unbelievable. At Microsoft the whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened! Try it out yourself...

i did some research n found out more on tht:
The following reserved device names cannot be used as the name of a file/folder:
CON, PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.
i try to save any file as the above name, it will oso prompt:
"The file name is a reserved device name, please choose another name."
haha maybe tht's not something new oledi..
You guys are using windows to create "con" folder right? I remember I was once a DOS person. so you might want to try this out. go to your Dos Prompt type this
md\\.\c:\con
this will create the con folder in your c drive. so how to remove that folder? same way....using the DOS way.
rd\\.\c:\con
have fun. asking me why con is a reserved word? i have no idea...it might be the reserve word for DOS...might be the "connection" or "console" ...actually I have no idea at all.
My sender column in yahoo mail cannot appear the name of the person which i store in address book. I have to manually insert the address. Any one can help me?
hey! I tried to name a folder 'con' before for my work before and can't! I was wonder y, untill I see this.. Bill Gates also can't answer it? wow.. it's interesting~ haha~
